索尼老总斯丁格 索尼老总斯丁格的签名 "Yang Lan One On One" 6th Anniversary Letter Interestingly, as China emerges as a major economic force, its citizens are becoming increasingly avid and sophisticated consumers. Companies around the world are eager to participate in this dynamic market, and I am proud to say that Sony has been building its relationships and its reputation within China for nearly 30 years. Sony first launched operations in China in 1978. In 2007 we have seven manufacturing sites and employ over 35,000 people. Our total investment in China exceeds US$1 billion. While China is the fastest growing market in which we operate, our priorities have always included establishing ourselves as a good corporate citizen, with strong local roots and a long-term growth plan that benefits both Sony and the people of China. This commitment is exemplified by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities Sony has implemented in China under the theme: “For the Next Generation”. We believe a company’s success hinges upon its contributions to the local communities in which it operates, so our strategies are aligned with China’s national policy of balanced, harmonious and sustainable development. Recognizing the importance of education to China’s long-term development, Sony is engaged in a variety of educational and social contribution activities, such as the donation of chairs, blackboards, books and sports equipment to schools across China. In 1994 we established the Sony Scholarship in Beijing, then in 1999 extended the program to Shanghai. Since then, the scholarship has been granted to more than 200 top university students annually. In 1994 we also launched the Sony Cup National Electronics Contest, which is held every two years and in which more than 35,000 students have participated. Since 1999 we have sponsored the Beijing International Music Festival every year, and in 2000 we opened Sony ExploraScience in Beijing. We have since renovated the facility and our investment to date exceeds US$32 million. In 2006 Sony invited a group of 20 Chinese high school students to Japan to participate in the Sony Student Project Abroad (China) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sony (China) and 60th anniversary of Sony. In 2007 we will welcome a second, even larger group of Chinese students to Japan to share in cultural exchange and environmental awareness activities. In line with Sony’s philosophy of “think globally, act locally”, we also endeavor to foster the development of local business leaders in China. We continue to place great emphasis on nurturing Chinese expertise, and we have established a local design and engineering group that develops products tailored to the needs of Chinese consumers. I am deeply impressed by the Chinese peoples’ passion, determination and readiness to embrace the future. While I sincerely believe that Sony is a valued partner and contributor within the Chinese market, I also know that there is much we can learn from our Chinese colleagues. We at Sony look forward to working together with the people of China, continuing to strengthen the bonds we have formed over the past 30 years, and enjoying even greater growth through collaboration in the century to come. Sir Howard Stringer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sony Corporation
